House Passes Transfer Tax (Amendment) Act, 2019

The House of Representatives on Tuesday (December 10) passed the Transfer Tax (Amendment) Act, 2019, making permanent the two 2019/20 transfer tax revenue measures that were implemented in April.

The legislation was piloted by Minster of Finance and the Public Service, Dr. the Hon. Nigel Clarke.

More Cruise Ship Calls For December

A total of 66 cruise ships are scheduled to call at ports across the island for the month of December.

Of the total, 25 are scheduled for the resort town of Ocho Rios, with 19 for Montego Bay, 18 for Falmouth, and four for Port Antonio.

Tourism Minister, Hon. Edmund Bartlett, told JIS News that the figure, while less than the 75 port calls for December 2018, is expected to rise as the season gathers momentum.

Infrastructure Development Increasing Real Estate Demand

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Audley Shaw, is encouraging real estate professionals to prepare to meet the growing demand for realtor services in the coming years.

He noted that several infrastructural developments now under way, including the build-out of roads and highways, and other projects to come on stream, are creating increased demand for commercial and residential real estate.

Minister of Finance, Dr. The Honourable Nigel Clarke has announced that in the short-to-medium term, the Jamaican government will bring to market attractive, productive investment opportunities for Jamaican capital to invest in worth well over J$30 billion.

While speaking at the Kiwanis Club of North St. Andrew’s weekly meeting at the Jamaica Police Officers Club on Thursday, September 6, 2018, Minister Clarke noted that the significant reduction in Jamaica’s debt is creating a need for real sector investment opportunities for institutional and portfolio investors to invest in.
